[Technological Frontier] Three dimensional porphyrin COF achieves efficient photocatalysis and photothermal conversion

Date: May 20th, 2024

Source: Journal of Materials Science and Engineering

A research team from Jilin University has developed a three-dimensional porphyrin based covalent organic framework (3D Por-An-COF) with a dual interpenetrating lvt-b topology, achieving breakthrough progress in the field of photocatalysis.

Technical details:

This material significantly enhances photon capture capability and the interaction between guest molecules and active centers by controlling the periodic arrangement of porphyrin units in the conjugated skeleton. Experiments have shown that the material can completely degrade the chemical warfare agent analogue 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (CEES) under white light irradiation in just 6 minutes, demonstrating its photocatalytic performance.

Application value:

The research team also modified the material with magic blue to achieve rapid heating to about 100 ℃ under 808nm laser irradiation, and based on this, constructed an interface water evaporation system with an evaporation rate of 1.64 kg ∙ m ⁻² ∙ h ⁻¹, and the thermoelectric device can generate an output voltage of 195 mV. This technology provides new ideas for solar powered water purification and power generation.

Industry impact:

This study provides a new strategy for designing efficient and multifunctional photocatalytic materials, which have broad application prospects in the fields of environmental remediation and energy conversion.
